Carpentry Services in Northwest Arkansas
Trim and finish carpentry, custom shelving, built-ins, barn doors, accent walls, and custom furniture. Mr. Fixit of NWA brings careful measuring and clean joinery to homes across Northwest Arkansas.
Overview
Finish carpentry and custom builds
Good carpentry hides itself. Trim that runs straight, corners that close tight, and shelving that sits dead level read as a finished room instead of a list of details. Sloppy carpentry does the opposite, and it tends to be the first thing your eye lands on every time you walk in.
Carpentry at Mr. Fixit of NWA spans two kinds of work. On the finish side, we install and repair the trim, baseboards, and casings that frame a room. On the custom side, we build the pieces you cannot buy off a shelf: pantry built-ins sized to your cans and appliances, closet systems planned around your storage, accent walls, and furniture made to fit a specific space. Owner Matt Houle has spent 15+ years working with wood and trim across construction, property management, and home repairs, and both sides of that work draw on the same habits of measuring, cutting, and fitting.

Our work
A look at our carpentry work
Two examples of the kind of carpentry we take on, from finish trim to custom furniture.

What careful carpentry looks like
Walls are rarely square and floors are rarely level, which is why carpentry starts with measuring the room, not just the board. Miters get cut to the corner in front of us rather than an assumed 45 degrees. Inside corners get coped where the profile calls for it. Joints close tight so caulk is a finishing touch, not a cover-up.
Matching matters too. When we add trim to a room that already has some, we work to match the existing profile, either with a stock match or the closest available blend, so new work does not announce itself. Everything gets filled, caulked, and sanded so it is ready for paint or stain when we leave.
Accent walls sit somewhere between finish work and custom building. Board and batten, plank-style paneling, or a simple picture-frame grid all start as stacks of straight boards, and the effect depends entirely on layout, spacing, and level lines. It is detail work, which is exactly the kind of work we like.
Process
How carpentry projects come together
- Describe the projectCall or send a request with what you want built or repaired, whether that is one bad miter or a full pantry build-out.
- Scope and measureWe look at the space, take measurements, and agree on materials and approach before work begins.
- Build and installCutting, fitting, and fastening, with pieces checked for level and fit as they go in.
- Finish the detailsNail holes filled, joints caulked, surfaces sanded, and the space cleaned up, ready for paint or stain.
Materials get settled up front as part of scoping, whether the project calls for paint-grade boards and sheet goods or stain-grade lumber, and we plan cuts to make the most of every piece.
